THE CAPSULE

In a distant future, near the 2050s, owning land becomes a feat of the fables; the air is thick and poisonous and the waters, a home for beasts untamed. ‘The Capsule’ was imagined as a solution to this dystopic scenario.

Competition Entry for ZONASA

2018 Common Era

"The Capsule" was the runner-up among 120 entries in the 2018 Annual Zonal NASA competition titled "Enigma." The challenge was to design an unconventional dwelling suited for the adverse climatic conditions expected to plague the earth in the distant future. Our research led us to conclude that such a dwelling must be mobile, capable of traversing various terrains, whether land or water, and well-protected against polluted air. The structure's strength is reflected in its capsule-like form, ensuring it remains upright at all times, while also being able to host a self-sustaining ecosystem. In conceptualizing our design, we drew inspiration from the Metabolism architecture movement in Japan, focusing on the core themes of modularity and biomimicry.
